Manufacturing & Purchase Lead Time

Image
Production, Planning & Control process involves raw material inventory management, raising a purchase request in case of shortage of raw material , & planning of new or upcoming projects. When we plan the project lead time of manufacturing & purchase items plays a very crucial role. Every manufacturing component has its own manufacturing lead time like let's say if we release of component manufacturing drawing today it may take 3 days time to get fabricated or manufactured some other may take as long as 2 weeks or 3 weeks time. Similarly let's say if we raise a purchase request for a particular Bought Out Part it may get delivered in 4 weeks time or 6 weeks time.  For a smooth manufacturing process we need to ensure the long lead items are planned first , average lead time components next & least lead time at the end. For the effective planning & execution process BOM Creator helps you categories the manufacturing/hardware/BOP items as High/Medium/Low . The

Project Planning & Control

Project planning activity requires the involvement of Engineering/Design , Production , PPC, Store & Purchase for gathering the information & executing things accordingly. Engineering/Design department shares the excel Bill Of Materials or put it in SAP-ERP of different projects being executed simultaneously. PPC uses the same to consolidate the total fabrication parts, Hardware , BOP etc. & checks with the store on availability of respective items required for execution of project. Using the consolidated reports store checks the shortage & reports the same to purchase department for procurement. Purchase department shares the requirement to different vendors & get the lead time of delivery of the same. The above process requires utmost accuracy so as to minimize the raw material scrap & reduce time for the GO-TO Market . In most of the case the planning is done manually which takes a lot of time & are much prone to errors. BOM Creator comes to rescue f

Raw Material Requirement Planning

Raw Material Planning becomes most crucial part of any project management process. We need to first of all understand the following before we start our planning & execution process: 1.) The total raw material available in store/inventory 2.) The total raw material required for execution of current projects 3.) The total raw material r equired for execution of upcoming projects Most of the ERPs/SAP have some methods to calculate or consolidate raw material required for various projects running simultaneously . In most of the cases OEMs use the excel Bill Of Materials for planning the same manually . The challenging part becomes when the planning process goes wrong & it is realized that : 1.) The ordered raw material is very less compared to the actual requirement 2.) A wrong item has been ordered  3.) The item ordered can't be used in any current or upcoming projects . This creates a complete chaos & effects our complete project delivery !!! BOM Creator with unique

In todays age more than 80% of Machine building MSMEs (SMEs) have some kind of ERP & PDM/PLM system in place for a smooth communication between the major stack holders. Also for easy planning & execution of any given projects.                   Lets first of all understand the way any machine building OEM works.                   Any project begins with a basic RFQ (Request For Quotation) , wherein the Sales/Marketing team shares the requirement & specifications to all the important stake holders of the organization. The major stack holders apart from Sales/Marketing are Engineering, Store, Planning, Production, Quality, Purchase, Logistics & Service . Each department quotes the required time of execution from their respective end with respect to the requirements or specifications. For example Engineering shares the time required for preparing & releasing the manufacturing drawings & Bill Of Materials from the date of receiving the Purchase Order. Planning
