SaaS & PaaS role in Manufacturing Industries

SaaS- Software as a Service: It is a type of model where a software is delivered as a license on a subscription basis. SaaS became a common delivery model for many business applications, including office softwaremessaging software, payroll processing software, DBMS software, management software, CAD software, development software, gamificationvirtualizationaccountingcollaborationcustomer relationship management (CRM), management information systems (MIS), enterprise resource planning (ERP), invoicing, field service management, human resource management (HRM), talent acquisitionlearning management systemscontent management (CM), geographic information systems (GIS), and service desk management.

Some of the examples in manufacturing industries are CAD softwares for desiging & detailing of drawings, CRM software, ERP, Office Suites etc. for building a better interdepartmental communication. These softwares have some or the other way has helped manufacturing industries in planning & execution of projects, reducing manufacturing errors and ultimately the raw material scrap to a an extend.

PaaS-Platform as a Service: It is a type of model where the softwares are programed & managed on cloud. This model actually don’t need any on premise hardware & software for using the application. Building and running on-premises applications is complex, expensive, and slow. Each on-premises applications require hardware, an operating system, a database, servers etc. PaaS actually helps eliminate the expense of buying, configuring, and managing all the hardware and software needed to run applications.

We all witnessing the technological upgrades happening around us & have been making our lives easier. We are seeing lot of enterprise applications have already started adapting to the PaaS model. The industries like CAD, Office suites, MIS, CRM & ERP has started moving towards the cloud platforms like Azure, AWS etc. This actually ensures the access of data from anywhere around the world with minimum IT infrastructure. The manufacturing industries adapting to PaaS would be actually be able to access their documents like latest revision of manufacturing drawings , or let’s say Bill Of Materials of any machine or can monitor the progress of the different projects wherever required without any interruption & with full data security.
